Murkomen assures Kenyans of festive season security, warns against indiscipline

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has assured Kenyans of enhanced security measures during the festive season, emphasizing the government's commitment to maintaining peace and safety throughout the Christmas and New Year holidays.

Speaking at a wedding ceremony in Fort Ternan, located at the Kisumu-Kericho border, Murkomen stated, "I want to assure the people of Kenya that their security and safety are guaranteed as they go about their festive activities."

He also urged citizens to act responsibly during the celebrations, advising against overindulgence and reminding everyone to adhere to the law.

To facilitate smooth travel for those heading upcountry, Murkomen noted that security agencies have been well-coordinated to cover all regions of the country.

However, he criticized certain motorists for contributing to traffic congestion through indiscipline, particularly during this busy holiday season.

Accompanied by Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo, Murkomen emphasized the necessity for motorists to comply with traffic regulations to prevent unnecessary jams.

He added that the Interior Ministry is collaborating closely with the Ministry of Transport to ensure safe and seamless travel for all Kenyans.

Additionally, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, present at the event, commended President William Ruto for his efforts to foster unity through an inclusive government, stating, "We thank the President and congratulate him for broadening his government to bring all Kenyans together."

In line with these assurances, the government has activated a National Multi-Agency Command Centre (NMACC) at Lang’ata Barracks to coordinate security operations nationwide.

This center works in conjunction with Regional and County centers to deter security threats and maintain public order.

A total of 10,317 officers from various security agencies, including the National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service, Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forestry Service, and the Kenya Coast Guard Service, have been deployed to manage public safety and address violations during the festive season.

Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja announced the deployment of additional police personnel and specialized units to maintain peace and prevent crime during this busy period.

Specialized units, including Formed Police Units and undercover officers, will work alongside regular police officers to intensify patrols.

Ground and aerial surveillance will be heightened in major towns, border areas, places of worship, shopping malls, and critical infrastructure sites.

The public is encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities or crimes to the nearest police station or through established hotlines: 999, 112, 911, and #FichuakwaDCI at 0800 722 203.

These measures aim to ensure that all Kenyans can enjoy a safe and peaceful festive season.
