24-Member Committee to Oversee Kindiki’s Swearing-In Gazetted

Chief of Staff Felix Kosei has gazetted the formation of a committee comprising 24 members to facilitate the swearing-in of Deputy President nominee Professor Kithure Kindiki.

“Whereas to facilitate the assumption office of the Deputy President-designate, the swearing-in of the Deputy President-designate shall be undertaken by the assumption of the Office of Deputy President Committee comprising members of the Assumption of the Office of President Committee, with the necessary modifications as to utility,” reads the notice in part.

“Whereas on the 17th of October 2024, a vacancy arose in the Office of the Deputy President following a resolution of the Senate in accordance with Article 150 of the Constitution as notified vide Gazette Notice No. 13400 of 2024.”

In order to fill the vacancy in the Office of the Deputy President, in exercise of his powers under Article 149 (1) of the Constitution, President William Ruto on the 18th of October 2024, nominated Kithure Kindiki, for confirmation by the National Assembly.

The notice added, “Whereas the National Assembly by an affirmative vote, pursuant to Article 149 of the Constitution, confirmed Prof. Kithure Kindiki, PhD., EG H., as the Deputy President-designate:

“Whereas the resolution of the National Assembly confirming the designation of Kithure Kindiki as Deputy President was notified vide Gazette Notice No. 13401 of October 2024.”

The gazette notice went on to state, “Whereas, arising from the decision of the National Assembly, court cases were filed, and interim orders were issued on the 18th of October 2024 barring the Deputy President-designate from assuming office.”

“Whereas a three Judge bench of the High Court sitting in Nairobi on the 31st of October 2024, vacated the interim orders halting the assumption to Office of the Deputy President-designate.”

Koskei stated that to facilitate the assumption of office of the Deputy President-designate, the swearing-in of the Deputy President-designate shall be undertaken by the assumption of the Office of Deputy President Committee comprising members of the Assumption of the Office of President Committee, with the necessary modifications as to utility.

Now therefore, it is notified for the general information of the public that the Assumption of the Office of Deputy President, committee has been constituted and shall comprise the following:
