“This morning at around 7.15, six uninformed people went to courage base and forcefully took my husband from the house. I have no idea who, why, or where they have taken him,” Njeri shared on social media.

For some days Boniface Mwangi has been rallying the public to occupy the Standard Chartered Marathon which is expected to take place on Sunday, October 27 to protest about the increased spate of abductions, killings, and recent government policies passed by the Kenya Kwanza Government which he considers punitive.

Mwangi issues directions to people attending the marathon

Mwangi asked Kenyans attending the charity marathon to undertake some duties that will help in reforming the country as they watch and cheer the athletes.

“Will you show up to cheer friends at the Standard Chartered marathon? You are a crucial part of the race; your cheering will motivate and energise the athletes and help reform our country in the process, ” part of the statement read.

The outspoken Activist asked Kenyans to Carry the Kenyan flag as a symbol of resistance against  “Ruto’s dictatorship.”

Additionally, he urged Kenyans to wear a bandana with anti-government chants “Ruto Must Go”.

He also told Kenyans to wear T-shirts celebrating the Kenyans who lost lives during the anti-finance bill protests and those who were allegedly abducted and are still missing.

Moreover, he urged Kenyans to wear hats with national colors, bring a placard with their message to Ruto, and record any incidents of police brutality towards spectators and share them online.

At the same time, Mwangi called on the public to have fun at the marathon and not to interfere or disrupt the race.

Outspoken Activist criticised for organizing protests at the marathon

Meanwhile, the outspoken Activist faced criticism from a section of Kenyans for his actions.

Kileleshwa Member of the County Assembly (MCA), Robert Alai wrote a letter to the Inspector General of Police urging him to ensure that the marathon’s organizers, participants, and all stakeholders adhere strictly to the law.

He argued that the marathon should be preserved as a tool for promoting unity and harmony rather than division and hatred.

“Turning this event into a stage for political protests and promoting divisive ethnic narratives, as suggested by some of Boniface Mwangi’s recent public statements, undermines the very essence of what the marathon is about,” read his letter in part.

A popular X user by the name of Dr. Branice Munyasa criticized Boniface Mwangi, saying that the marathon should be about a family fun day and not a political event.

“I can’t imagine how they must feel, seeing the possibility of the day they’ve been preparing so hard for being disrupted—not by the people we all collectively dislike, but by their fellow citizens who cannot differentiate between a family fun day and a political event,” her statement read.
