Gachagua Fires Back at Ichung’wah Over Abduction Claims

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hit back at National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah after the latter accused him of being behind recent abductions.

In his response, Gachagua, while attending the funeral of the late Eric Kivuti at ACK Kanyuambora Boys in Mbeere North, Embu County, dismissed the claims, accusing the government of perpetuating falsehoods.

“The problem with Kenya is the constant lies. That’s probably why I was axed from the government because I stood for the truth,” Gachagua remarked.

“The president has said almost five times that there’s no evidence of abductions. The other day he said there are such cases. Yet now his political machinery, including that Member of Parliament he uses, is lying that I am the one behind the abductions.”

Gachagua Responds to Ichung’wah

Gachagua went on to criticize the government for underestimating the intelligence of Kenyans.

“Can you respect the people? Kenyans are very intelligent. You people are running out of lies. You’ve lied so much that you now believe your own lies,” he added.

The former Deputy President also called out Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire and other pro-government leaders in the county for their silence on the increasing cases of abductions under President Ruto’s administration.

His response comes after Ichung’wah while speaking on Friday, January 3 during the burial of National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s mother, Maayi Nanyama, in Bungoma County, alleged that Gachagua had been orchestrating the abductions to tarnish President William Ruto’s name.

This is after Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya criticized COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli’s remarks which suggested that some individuals might be faking their own abductions to create chaos and blame the government.

Natembeya, while speaking at Wetang’ula’s mother’s funeral, termed Atwoli’s sentiments as misplaced.

“Our children are being abducted and killed—that is the reality. To suggest otherwise is insensitive and unacceptable in these hallowed grounds,” Natembeya said.

Kimani Ichung’wah Accuses Former DP of Orchestrating Abductions

In defence of Atwoli, Ichung’wah urged Natembeya to provide the names of suspected abductors to investigative agencies, given his background as a former Regional Commissioner.

“Governor Natembeya, if you know the people abducting others, submit that information to the DCI for investigation,” Ichung’wah stated.

“Your former leader in tribal politics, the former Deputy President, was the one orchestrating these abductions to blame William Ruto. We know them, we see them in broad daylight, and we will expose them publicly.”
