Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) have threatened to shut down operations within two weeks.
In a statement on Thursday, October 31, the County Assemblies Forum (CAF) resolved that all 47 county assemblies will stop operations in the next 14 days if the government fails to produce missing Wajir MCA Yusuf Hussein Ahmed.
Speaking during the County Assemblies Forum Wajir County Assembly Speaker Abdille Yussuf said the MCAs are sure the national government is holding the colleague.
“As an assembly we are convinced and confident that Yussuf is being held by the government,” he said.
Abdille emphasized that injustice to one MCA or Assembly is an injustice to all the other county assemblies and MCAs.
For this reason, he requested the MCAs to stand with Wajir so that they can do everything possible to pressure the government to produce the MCA.
The Speaker said pressure has been mounting on Wajir County Assembly to find the whereabouts of Yussuf who was reported missing on September 13, 2024.
“Yussuf has a large family which is missing their son, father, husband and there is a lot of pressure on Wajir County Assembly, and we want to extend that pressure to all the county assemblies to stand with us, share the pain and help us uncover the misery surrounding this disappearance,” Abdille said.

He mentioned that the family lodged a petition in the High Court and is expecting orders.
There is a body which was discovered in a lake in Wajir and when it was taken to the morgue, the family claimed ownership through visible identification marks.
However, to be conclusive a DNA test was conducted and the results turned out to be negative.
“The discovery of the body caused a bit of tension in Wajir held a meeting on the way forward. We resolved that because our efforts both as a county and national leadership has not produced any meaningful results that we engage all the MCAs through CAF.
Chair of the County Assemblies Forum and Speaker of Elgeyo Marakwet County, Kiplagat Sabulei , joined the Speaker and leadership of the Wajir County Assembly to express their deep concern and highlight the agony surrounding the disappearance of Yussuf Hussein Ahmed.
