Several people are feared dead following a serious road accident on the Londiani-Muhoroni Road.

On Tuesday, September 3, nine people were killed in a horrific road accident at Pangala along the Londiani-Muhoroni highway. The crash involved a 14-seater Public Service Vehicle (PSV) en route to Kisumu and a trailer heading towards Londiani. Initial reports suggest the trailer lost control and crashed into the matatu traveling towards Muhoroni. The driver of the trailer fled the scene following the incident.

Police and emergency responders have been dispatched to the accident site to assist with evacuating the victims. Photos obtained by nairobiinsight.co.ke/ reveal that the matatu was extensively damaged, with locals at the scene attempting to aid the passengers.

Of the ten passengers who died in the accident, five were men and four were women. Three injured passengers were taken to Muhoroni Sub-County Hospital for treatment, while the deceased were transported to St. Vincent Mission Hospital mortuary in Muhoroni.

This accident occurred just days after a similar tragedy in Tharaka Nithi County, where twelve people lost their lives in a severe crash near Nithi Bridge. Among the deceased were two minors, eight women, and two men. The collision involved a Toyota Hiace hired for a Nairobi-bound journey and a Toyota Hilux traveling towards Chogoria.

Tharaka Nithi Police Commander Zaccheus Ng'eno reported that the driver of the Nairobi-bound vehicle was unfamiliar with the road, leading to a swerve that resulted in a head-on collision with the oncoming Hilux. "Initial investigations suggest that the vehicle coming from Meru was not well-acquainted with the road, which likely caused the driver to drift from their lane and collide with the approaching car," Ng'eno explained.
