Tahidi High actor and thespian Xavier Jerry Nato, has passed away after battling a prolonged illness.
Nato suffered a stroke that led to kidney failure and his family made a financial appeal for his Intensive Care Unit (ICU) treatment.
The news for his demise was confirmed by the Kenya Theatre Awards who described Nato as a person who left a mark on Kenya’s theatre scene over the last two decades, inspiring and mentoring many young people in theatre.
“We are sad to announce the demise of one of Kenya’s prolific thespians, Xavier Jerry Nato, after a long illness bravely borne.
He is best remembered for his award-winning productions in the Kenya National Drama and Film Festival, winning the KTA’s Inaugural Best Playwright Award in 2022, and being a co-founder of Millaz Productions, all of which have left a mark on Kenya’s theatre scene over the last two decades, inspiring and mentoring many young people in theatre.
May his family, friends and associates find peace and strength during this difficult period.”
Xavier Nato was widely known for his role in the popular TV series Salem, Tahidi High and Wash and Set.
Nato’s talent as a playwright earned him recognition, and he was honoured with the esteemed Best Playwright Award in 2022.
Tributes have poured in from friends, colleagues, and fans who remember Nato for his talent, warmth, and unwavering passion for the arts.
“I have lost a brother, confidant, and friend. If I were to write a book about my life, Xavier would take half of the book. My feelings are conflicted,” Nato’s close friend Job Masika wrote.
“I can’t even describe how I’m feeling. It’s a mixture of shock, devastation, and pain bundled in my heart.”
