Tyrese Gibson, Star of "Fast and Furious" and R&B Singer, Arrested Over Ksh. 9.4 Million in Unpaid Child Support
Tyrese Gibson, star of "Fast and Furious" and R&B singer, was arrested in court over Ksh. 9.4 million in unpaid child support. The arrest follows his failure to adhere to a court order requiring monthly payments of Ksh. 1.2 million, leading Judge Kevin Farmer to find him in contempt. Gibson faces the possibility of jail time unless he pays the total amount, including legal fees for his ex-wife, Samantha Lee.
Tyrese Gibson Arrested in Court Over Unpaid Child Support
American entertainer Tyrese Gibson, recognized for his roles in "Fast and Furious" and as a well-known R&B singer, was arrested in court on Monday morning due to ongoing issues with unpaid child support from his ex-wife, Samantha Lee. Gibson, who shares a 5-year-old daughter named Soraya with Lee, appeared before Judge Kevin Farmer in Fulton County, Georgia, amid a protracted battle over his child support obligations.
Reports suggest that Gibson had repeatedly failed to comply with a court order requiring him to pay $10,000 (approximately Ksh. 1.2 million) per month, a payment schedule that was set to begin in April of the previous year. The judge had become increasingly frustrated with Gibson’s non-compliance, leading to the decision to hold him in contempt of court. Consequently, Gibson was led out of the courtroom in handcuffs following the judge’s ruling.
Judge Farmer outlined that Gibson could avoid jail time if he paid a total of $73,000 (about Ksh. 9.4 million). This amount includes $7,500 (around Ksh. 965,000) designated to cover Samantha Lee's legal expenses. According to reports from TMZ, the "Sweet Lady" singer is actively working on arrangements to settle the outstanding debt and resolve the issue.
Prior to his court appearance, Gibson had used his Instagram account to hint at the possibility of his arrest. In a now-deleted post, he criticized Judge Farmer and the family court system, accusing them of bias and unfair treatment towards fathers. Gibson wrote, “It’s pretty clear that they hate my guts, but I must remind them of my life and success. I’ve worked hard since I was 14 years old to get here,” and expressed his dissatisfaction with the family court system, stating, “#FamilyLawCourts are the WORST TOWARDS FATHERS.”
Gibson and Lee, who tied the knot in 2017, announced their separation in 2020. They described their split as “a painful and significant development in our lives.” Besides his daughter Soraya with Lee, Gibson also has a teenage daughter named Shayla from his previous marriage to Norma Mitchell. Despite the current legal troubles, Gibson is focused on resolving the matter and supporting his children.
