Lamu County Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua has sadly passed away. He died on Friday, September 6, at approximately 6 p.m. while receiving medical treatment at Nairobi Hospital. The family has chosen not to disclose the specific illness or medical condition that led to his death.
President William Ruto expressed his profound sorrow over the loss, describing Munyua as a forward-thinking leader who dedicated himself to the betterment of Lamu County. “I am deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua Ndung’u. He was a visionary leader who worked tirelessly for the progress and welfare of the people of Lamu County. My heartfelt condolences and prayers go out to his family, friends, and the residents of Lamu during this difficult time. May he rest in peace,” President Ruto said in a statement.
Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua also paid tribute to Munyua, acknowledging his dedication and professionalism in public service. “It is with profound sadness that I have received the news of the passing of Lamu County Deputy Governor, Raphael Munyua Ndung’u. He was a committed, development-oriented leader who served the people of Lamu with exceptional dedication, diligence, and professionalism,” Gachagua remarked.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi highlighted Munyua’s exemplary servant leadership and selflessness. “I am deeply saddened by the untimely death of Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua Ndung’u. He was a shining example of servant leadership, known for his dedication and selflessness in public service. I extend my deepest condolences to his family, Governor Issa Timamy, and the people of Lamu County for this significant loss,” Mudavadi stated.
Raphael Munyua had ascended to the position of Lamu Deputy Governor following a successful campaign on a joint ticket with Governor Issa Timamy in the 2022 general elections. His passing marks a significant loss to the county and the broader community he served.
