Death Toll at Endarasha Academy Rises Following Tragic Fire

The devastating fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni, Nyeri County, has tragically claimed the lives of 21 individuals, with many victims succumbing to severe burn injuries in hospitals in Nairobi and Nyeri. Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura revealed the grim update in a statement on the evening of Saturday, September 7. Mwaura reported that 19 bodies had been recovered from the scene with the assistance of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the government pathologist, while the remaining two fatalities occurred in medical facilities, including Kenyatta National Hospital and Mary Immaculate Hospital in Nyeri.
Mwaura expressed profound condolences from the Government of Kenya, addressing the bereaved families with deep sympathy and support. He also extended heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured students and those affected psychologically by the horrific incident. The tragic loss of young lives has left the nation in mourning, as the community grapples with the magnitude of this disaster.
As of the latest reports, 48 boys remain missing two days after the fire, which ravaged a dormitory housing 156 male learners at the time. In response to the tragedy, President William Ruto has called for a comprehensive investigation to determine the cause of the fire and hold accountable those responsible. The President has also announced a three-day period of national mourning to honor the victims and support the grieving families.
